Who We Are
Cannaversity was born inside the OZ Stoners forums in 2006 — a dedicated space for cannabis education, harm reduction, and informed discussion at a time when almost no credible resources existed anywhere in the world.
What started as a thread became a global platform. The Seedbank Guide and Strain Guide grew into the most comprehensive community-driven cannabis databases on the internet, built from real grower experience across dozens of countries over nearly two decades.
The four pillars of the shield — culture, medicine, politics, and sustainability — have guided Cannaversity from the beginning. They reflect a whole-plant philosophy: cannabis understood not just as a substance, but as a cultural force, a medicine, a political issue, and an ecological opportunity.
Today, Cannaversity combines its global education resources with specialist consulting in Australia's rapidly evolving medical cannabis market. Cannaversity 2.0 launches the databases as fully searchable public tools, while building an expert consulting marketplace to serve patients, businesses, and professionals worldwide.
The four pillars
Culture
Cannabis as community, art, identity and lived experience
Medicine
Patient advocacy, harm reduction, and therapeutic education
Politics
Reform, legislation, advocacy, and public discourse
Sustainability
Ecological responsibility, hemp, and regenerative practice
History
From a forum thread to Australia's most comprehensive cannabis database.
Born inside OZ Stoners
Cannaversity begins as a dedicated education section within the OZ Stoners community — Australia's longest running cannabis forum, founded in 1999. The goal: create a credible, moderated resource for cannabis knowledge at a time when almost none existed in Australia.
Seedbank & Strain Guides begin
The Seedbank Guide and Strain Guide launch as community-driven databases. Thousands of Australians contribute reports, ratings, and grow diaries — building what becomes the most comprehensive cannabis reference of its kind in Australia.
Community and reform work
As cannabis reform gains momentum in Australia, Cannaversity becomes a trusted community voice — education resources, industry updates, and advocacy work positioning the platform as a serious reference point during major legislative change.
HHI Expo — stepping into the industry
Cannaversity takes its place at the HHI Expo, marking a significant step from online community into the broader cannabis industry. The response confirms clear appetite for credible, independent cannabis expertise.
Adapting to a changing industry
As Australia's medical cannabis industry matures, Cannaversity continues evolving — moving from purely community-driven content toward a structured consulting and education offering to serve a rapidly professionalising sector.
Cannaversity 2.0 — The databases go live
The next chapter begins. The Seedbank Guide and Strain Guide are rebuilt on Cloudflare D1 and launched as fully searchable public databases. Consulting, expert marketplace, and community funding through Patreon follow.
